🇫🇷 FranceTour de France Organizers Refused to Provide Financial Compensation to Communities Cut From the Route When the Ninth Stage Was Shortened

On July 12, for the first time in its history, the Tour shortened a stage by about 30 kilometers between Malemort and Ussel to protect riders' health. The last-minute change dashed the hopes of several villages that had prepared celebrations for the peloton's passage. All events were canceled the day before.
Collonges-la-Rouge incurred €2,200 in expenses. The mayors had hoped for a financial gesture from organizers following an initiative by the Corrèze departmental council, but their request was not granted. The villages removed from the route after the shortening had sought aid from ASO, the race organizer, but received no support. We are disappointed, said one mayor, reflecting the bitterness of communities left out of the race's festivities.
