The Results Are a Major Blow to Sionna

Sionna Therapeutics said Monday that its experimental cystic fibrosis pill, SION-719, showed no benefit when added to Vertex Pharmaceuticals' Trikafta in a Phase 2 trial, prompting the company to abandon the drug as an add-on therapy and hint at potential layoffs. The company, founded in 2019 — the year Trikafta reached the market and transformed care for tens of thousands of CF patients — said it will take steps to preserve capital while evaluating next steps.
