Wildfire in Southeastern France's Drome Department Still Burning After a Week

The blaze, which has scorched around 400 hectares in the town of Diois, remains active despite efforts to bring fires across the country largely under control. Four firefighters were slightly injured in the still-active fires. More than 400 firefighters and four helicopters or firefighting aircraft are continuing to respond.

A fire in Fontvieille, in the Bouches-du-Rhone department, was brought under control yesterday. French meteorological agency Meteo-France said fire risk is "high" in 17 departments nationwide. Meteo-France also reported that a new heatwave has taken hold and issued an "orange" heat alert for 22 departments. France, which is experiencing its worst fire season on record, has seen 117,000 hectares burned this year.
