Wiltshire Schools to Ban Cars at Pick-up and Drop-off Times

Aloeric Primary School in Melksham, Fynamore Primary School in Calne, Minster Primary School in Warminster and Queen's Crescent Primary School in Chippenham have volunteered for the scheme, which starts on September 4. Vehicles on certain roads will be monitored using Automatic Number Plate Regulation (ANPR) cameras. Exemptions apply for emergency services, people with medical needs, blue badge holders, and residents and businesses within restricted areas. Restrictions will only be in place for short periods at the start and end of the school day, with exact times varying by school.

The scheme aims to improve safety, reduce congestion and encourage walking and cycling, Wiltshire Council said. School Streets are about creating safer, calmer environments for children and families at the busiest times of the school day, said Councillor Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways.
