A former Thai lawmaker allegedly declared he had attacked a local official just outside Bangkok during a phone call with a well-known media commentator shortly before local officials said he had been arrested. Chalong Reawraeng, who sat in Thailand's House of Representatives, allegedly shot an ex-police officer who was serving in the country's Nonthaburi province just outside of the capital on Monday, along with his driver. The suspected shooter was detained, said provincial police chief, Major General Dejrapee Kongdee.
This comes just days after a teenager shot his grandparents a nd opened fire on a school in the same province. At least nine people were killed, including the suspected shooter, shocking the country and igniting fresh debate about gun control. According to local media reports and the BBC, Anchalee Paireerak, a journalist and presenter, picked up a call during a YouTube livestream and appeared visibly shocked while asking whether an unspecified person died after the caller "shot him in the head. "You need to wait there for the cops, Paireerak said.
