United Kingdom: Wildfire in British Columbia Claims First Victim As 80-Year-old Woman Dies Fleeing Home

A wildfire that broke out Friday in Canada's British Columbia province has claimed its first victim. The woman was attempting to leave with a family member due to the Summerland (Bald Range) fire when she suddenly died, according to a statement. By Sunday, the flames had engulfed more than 13,600 hectares.

Over 20,000 people have been evacuated, and authorities declared a state of emergency in the province. More than 100 active wildfires were reported in the province on Sunday.
