Detroit Lions Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater Retires for Good

Lions quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who was set to be Detroit's backup, has informed the team that he is planning to step away from the team and retire, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport. This isn't the first time Bridgewater has caught the Lions by surprise. He announced his plans to retire from the NFL following the conclusion of the 2023 season and went on to become a high school football coach.

However, Bridgewater ultimately returned to the NFL, spending the 2024 season with the Lions and 2025 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Lions head coach Dan Campbell hinted Bridgewater's decision to hang up his cleats will be for good this time, though. Teddy Bridgewater is going to step away.

I've known Teddy a long time, and man, the human being is unbelievable, certainly the player. Everything that he's about, the type of teammate he is, the play he prepares, always played the game up here and had a huge heart, he's going to be missed, Campbell said.
