Starting Pitcher Tarik Skubal's Stint With the Los Angeles Dodgers Might Not Last Long After He Was Traded There at the Deadline

The two-time American League Cy Young Award winner recently joined the defending back-to-back World Series champions after the Detroit Tigers traded him on Sunday. Skubal had been part of trade rumors for several months before the Tigers ultimately gave him up for center fielder Zyhir Hope and right-handed pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith. Skubal admitted leaving the Tigers after spending his entire career there has been difficult, and he hopes to return to Detroit in free agency this offseason.

“I would love to play my whole career in Detroit. I would love to, Skubal said on Pardon My Take. And hopefully those negotiations can pick back up in November once the playoffs are done.

We’ll see where that goes. Hopefully they’re involved with everything. I would love to return.

Joining the Dodgers certainly boosts Skubal's odds of winning his first World Series title. However, the two-time Tiger of the Year wanted to help Detroit win its first World Series since 1984, and Skubal believed the Tigers had the roster to do it this season. This wasn’t the way the season was supposed to go. Going into the offseason, [with] the people that we acquired through free agency and who we signed, I’m like, ‘This is the World Series team,’” Skubal said.
