The Steelers' First-round Pick Went Down With an Injury at Camp.

Here's what head coach Mike McCarthy said about his status. The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered an injury scare this week in training camp when first-round rookie offensive tackle Max Iheanachor went down with an apparent right shoulder and neck injury. The injury happened during a padded practice session on Thursday, and he was forced to miss the rest of practice after being walked off the field by a Steelers medical trainer.
With the team's preseason set to kick off in under a week, there was some concern in Pittsburgh. But head coach Mike McCarthy provided an encouraging update on Friday. Speaking with reporters, McCarthy said Iheanachor would miss practice Friday but could return on Monday.
"[Iheanachor] won't go today, McCarthy said. "I think we might not see him 'til Monday, but he's okay. More news Saints Rookie Continues Camp Rise After Highlight Play With Spencer Rattler.
The Steelers selected Iheanachor 21st overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, making him the fifth tackle taken in the draft. It came after Iheanachor put together a strong final three seasons at Arizona State. A 6-foot-6, 320-pound tackle, Iheanachor started 12 games for the Sun Devils in 2025 and earned second-team All-Big 12 honors.
He was widely viewed as a late first- or early second-round pick, drawing comparisons to Carolina Panthers veteran tackle Taylor Moton leading up to the draft.
