Congo's Worst Ebola Outbreak Rages As Conflict Blocks Response

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is battling its largest Ebola outbreak on record, with the response hampered by active conflict and armed groups, according to Heather Kerr, Country Director for Congo at the International Rescue Committee. The outbreak spread undetected for months before being identified, and efforts have been hindered by delayed diagnosis, the difficulty of distinguishing the Bundibugyo strain from other common illnesses, and the operational challenges of working in a conflict zone.
