We Make It Work by Giving Each Other Enough Space While Enjoying Each Other's Company.

My husband and I feel fortunate to be able to spend several months a year living with his mom. We make it work by giving each other enough space while taking time to enjoy each other's company. Some of my favorite moments are simple ones, like sharing meals and catching up over tea.

For the past five years, my husband and I have spent several months each year living with his 85-year-old mom. Since he and I both work remotely and don't have any children or pets, we make the most of our freedom by choosing to spend a lot of time with his mom while we can. After all, our home base is in Los Angeles, on the other side of the country, so we like to make the most of our time together when we can.

Many people might assume this unconventional living arrangement would leave us without privacy or even put a strain on our marriage, but we actually love how it's worked out. Having our own space and lots of alone time is a must. Living together isn't the same as spending every moment together.
