🇮🇳 IndiaRetail Loans Remained the Largest Component of NBFC Lending, Growing 20.3 Per Cent to ₹25.62 Lakh Crore

Housing loans increased 11.4 per cent to ₹8.44 lakh crore, while vehicle loans rose 15.2% to ₹6.24 lakh crore, highlighting steady consumer demand. Outstanding credit extended by non-banking financial companies (NBF Cs), including housing finance companies (HF Cs), rose 14.4 per cent year-on-year to ₹59.31 lakh crore in June 2026, reflecting sustained demand across retail, services and agriculture segments. Retail loans remained the largest component of NBFC lending, growing 20.3 per cent to ₹25.62 lakh crore.
Interestingly, the sharpest growth continued to be seen in loans against gold jewellery, which surged 69.3 per cent year-on-year to ₹3.41 lakh crore. Gold now accounts for 13.3 per cent of the total NBFC retail loans, nearly doubled compared to 7.7 per cent two years back in June 2024. Meanwhile, consumer durable loans also recorded strong growth of 46.8 per cent, reaching ₹72,201 crore. Credit to the services sector grew 17.6 per cent year-on-year to ₹7.70 lakh crore, led by a 33.8 per cent rise in commercial real estate lending to ₹1.11 lakh crore.
Credit to trade increased 17.1 per cent, while loans to transport operators rose 9.8 per cent. Industry credit rose 6.7 per cent to ₹22.04 lakh crore, with infrastructure accounting for ₹20.09 lakh crore. Lending to the power sector increased 4.9 per cent to ₹14.26 lakh crore. Agriculture and allied activities credit grew 17.9 per cent to ₹79,684 crore, while other loans expanded 17.5 per cent to ₹3.15 lakh crore.
