Guccini Feared the Blank Page, But When Writing He Didn't Need

Paolo Fabrizio Iacuzzi, who edited Francesco Guccini's books for the past decade, recalled the late singer-songwriter in an interview with La Repubblica. Iacuzzi said he read Guccini's new novel to him at his bedside, and Guccini laughed. "Guccini feared the blank page, but when writing he didn't need to revise, Iacuzzi said.

"He hated being reminded of his songs; he wanted to be seen as a writer, not a singer-songwriter. Let's name something after him, Pavana. Iacuzzi noted Guccini died on the anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing, and his early songs like 'Il Vecchio e il Bambino, 'Noi non ci saremo, and 'L'atomica cinese' dealt with nuclear disasters. He was a man of letters and the last of the great humanists.
