Hunt Launched for Arms FETÖ Suspect Says Buried in Marmaris After 2016 Coup Bid

A comprehensive operation has been launched to locate weapons and ammunition allegedly buried in Marmaris, based on the statements of Burkay Karatepe, a FETÖ terrorist who participated in the assassination attempt against President Erdoğan during the July 15 coup attempt and was captured 10 years later.
The operation is being coordinated by the Muğla Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, with joint efforts from the police departments of Afyonkarahisar, Eskişehir, and Muğla. Karatepe, who was arrested in Afyonkarahisar and subsequently detained in Muğla on August 5, has provided statements leading to the search. According to his testimony, he buried long-barreled weapons, pistols, and ammunition in the Armutalan and İçmeler neighborhoods of Marmaris, which he used as escape routes and to obtain supplies after the coup attempt.
Following a court order from the Muğla Peace Criminal Court, a scene demonstration is being conducted under the supervision of a public prosecutor. Additionally, DNA comparison and matching studies are being carried out using blood and hair samples taken from the suspect to establish connections with weapons seized during searches conducted since July 15, 2016.
