The union expressed "further concern" over his health and said Yousfi suffered a "sudden illness" overnight between Friday and Saturday and was taken to a hospital in the capital, where doctors decided urgent surgery was necessary. The SNJT said the authorities holding him bear "full responsibility" for his physical integrity and demanded he receive all necessary care and medical monitoring.
The union renewed its call for Yousfi's immediate release, also to allow him to continue treatment and recovery in adequate conditions. Yousfi was detained on September 4 outside the offices of local radio station Express FM, where he was set to take part in a program on water policy in Tunisia.
