Guyana to Accept Voluntary Deportees With No Criminal Record Under Trump Plan

The arrangement requires that all arrivals be voluntary and have no criminal record. Since returning to the White House in 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump has pursued an aggressive anti-immigration campaign that includes raids and deportations to third countries. Within this framework, Guyana said it would accept a limited number of people without criminal records.

The government of President Irfaan Ali has presented this arrangement as an extension of Guyana's long-standing commitment to human rights and international cooperation, according to an official statement. Guyana thus joins a list of Caribbean and Central American countries that have agreed to cooperate with Washington on migrant expulsions. In this context, some 250 Venezuelans have been sent to El Salvador, to a mega-prison for gang members, the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT). Guyana stressed that the agreement is strictly transitional and does not constitute permanent resettlement.
