Turkey's Per-capita Plastic Waste Is 48 Kg Annually, 44.9% Above the World Average

Turkey's Zero Waste Foundation unveiled a report showing global plastic use has doubled to 460 million tons and plastic waste to 353 million tons, with only 9% recycled. Turkey's per-capita plastic waste is 48 kg annually, 44.9% above the world average. Foundation head Samed Ağırbaş stressed the need to change production and consumption habits.

An international plastic waste workshop will be held Aug. 31-Sept. 1, involving 14 ministries, over 40 directorates, universities, and NG Os, to create Turkey's plastic action plan. Targets include reducing unnecessary plastic use at the source and raising the recovery rate to 60% by 2035, with 5-, 10-, 15-, and 30-year plans to be discussed.
