Woman Arrested in Japan for Canceling 2,100 Manga Orders Worth $27.2 Million

Tokyo Metropolitan Police said Yoshida Mayu, a 32-year-old restaurant worker, was indicted on charges of fraudulent obstruction of a commercial enterprise. Between July 2024 and May 2025, she allegedly used 238 accounts to order One Piece and Naruto merchandise from Shueisha Inc., delaying payments until automatic cancellation and refusing packages at delivery. The canceled orders exceeded 4.3 billion yen ($27.2 million).

Yoshida admitted the charges, saying stress from daily life drove her actions, adding, I generally love anime. Ordering products gave me a sense of satisfying my desires. Shueisha reported significant financial losses, including temporary stockouts and disrupted delivery payments.
