Cornyn: Democrats 'Self-destructing' After El-sayed's Narrow Win'

Sen. John Cornyn shrugged off Paxton's deficit, then welcomed El-Sayed's nomination, saying Democrats are 'self-destructing' and offering voters 'a choice between a Republican and a crazy person.
El-Sayed, a former Wayne County health director, beat moderate Rep. Haley Stevens by less than a point to succeed retiring Sen. Gary Peters.
He backs single-payer healthcare, criticized Israel's Gaza war, and wants to abolish ICE. Republicans see him as beatable for nominee Mike Rogers, and the NRSC has used his full name, Abdulrahman Mohammed El-Sayed, while calling the party divided. Sen.
Rick Scott called progressives 'antisemitic' and claimed they want open borders. Sen. Bernie Sanders defended El-Sayed, saying attacks on his Muslim faith are wrong.
Democrats hold 53 Senate seats, with competitive races in North Carolina, Iowa, Maine, and Texas. I could say, 'I told you so, but I'm not, Cornyn said.
