Gianni Infantino Despite the Collapse of His Plan to Sell Stakes in Global Competitions, With Five of the Seven African Nations on the Fifa

The Confederation of African Football has not taken an official stance, but support stems from Fifa's Forward programme, a funding scheme introduced in 2016 that many African federations rely on. Morocco's football president Fouzi Lekjaa called Infantino's withdrawal of the proposal "wise, and senior executives backed him at a meeting in Rabat on Wednesday. Egypt, home to Caf's headquarters, remains a strong ally, with Fifa Council member Hany Abo Rida maintaining close ties since 2016, though officials increasingly expect Fifa's engagement to go beyond financial aid. The Congolese Football Federation also welcomed the withdrawal as "wise, citing a decade of support for African nations, and its president Véron Mosengo-Omba assured Infantino of "full support" beyond 2027.
