Israel Continues Attacks on Lebanon Despite Truce

The talks follow a framework agreement signed on June 26 after the fifth round in Washington, and the sixth round held in Rome on July 14-15. In Lebanon, direct negotiations with Israel remain highly contentious domestically: President Joseph Avn and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam view them as the only option to stop bloodshed and reach a lasting solution, while Hezbollah and its allies reject the talks as capitulation. US President Donald Trump said on April 24 he looked forward to hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Avn at the White House soon. This would mark the highest-level direct meeting since 1993.
