Penguin Colony Blends Body-switching Horror With Cosmic Clues

In Penguin Colony, a psychological horror game from Origame Digital, players explore Antarctica as flightless birds while tailing a Nazi expedition. Founder Naphtali Faulkner drew inspiration from Happy Feet, HP Lovecraft, and The Thing, crafting a surreal narrative that critiques colonial thought. The game features body-switching between penguin species, cryptic cosmic clues, and a low-poly PS2 aesthetic to keep costs low.
Set in an open-world Antarctic tundra, it emphasizes intuition over UI, with alien languages and hieroglyphics players must decipher, inspired by Dark Souls' Hidetaka Miyazaki. Faulkner noted, [In the movie], they see the digger fall into the ocean, and it has an almost eldritch quality, which sparked the game's unsettling tone.
