Ford Names Its Upcoming Midsize Electric Truck the Fathom at $28,350

The sub-$30,000 starting price marks a departure from Ford's first-generation EVs, the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, which ranged from roughly $38,000 to $90,000. The Fathom, developed under a Skunkworks program launched in 2022 after billions in EV losses, will use an "assembly tree" production system with three separate lines for front, rear, and battery-interior sections. Ford says the truck accelerates like the Mustang EcoBoost, offers interior cargo space comparable to the Toyota RAV4, and will be its first vehicle with Apple software integration. Full design, trim details, and range estimates remain undisclosed, as Ford has only shown camouflaged images.
