Food Ordering Rolls Out With Partners Like Square and Toast, With Uber Eats Support Coming Soon

Google Maps' AI-powered Ask Maps tool can now order food, find hotels and events, and accept conversational location edits, the company announced. The updates, which aim to "make it easier than ever to get more done" without leaving the app, include agentic capabilities that factor in dietary needs, location, and saved places. For example, users can ask it to order spicy pad kee mao with seafood for me to pick up on my way home, and Ask Maps will find open restaurants along the route, adding the dish to the cart for completion.

Ask Maps can also suggest hotels and events matching specific requirements, such as aesthetics or proximity to gyms and restaurants. Users can contribute and edit location info conversationally, including uploading photos like storefront signs, from which Maps extracts details like updated hours for confirmation.

These features are rolling out in the US, with more countries later. Google Maps is also adding Personal Intelligence, a Gemini-powered feature that personalizes responses by connecting to data from other Google apps, starting with Gmail (disabled by default), with Calendar support coming soon. Real-time transit updates for delays are now available wherever Ask Maps is offered, which has expanded to Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, and Mexico.
