Attack on Shakib's Residence Leaves No Injuries

The attack came hours after Shakib, a former Awami League lawmaker, joined a virtual event in New Delhi where ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made her first public media appearance since fleeing Bangladesh in 2024, vowing to return in December. Hasina, 78, who has been living in India since August 2024, reiterated her pledge to go back, saying, "I will return to my people. I know that they may put me in jail or they may kill me, but still I have to go back.

She also called for the ban on the Awami League to be lifted. Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry condemned the address as "an affront to the sovereignty of Bangladesh, warning it could harm bilateral ties. Shakib, who has remained outside Bangladesh since the 2024 student-led uprising, faces investigations over murder, embezzlement, fraud, and money laundering. Hasina was sentenced to death in absentia in November 2025 over the crackdown on the uprising, a verdict she dismisses as politically motivated.
