64-Year-old Dialysis Patient in Turkey Receives Kidney After 17-Year Wait

Mustafa Öztürk, a 64-year-old father of two from Bayburt, received a kidney transplant at Atatürk University Research Hospital's Organ Transplant Center after a donor kidney from Giresun proved compatible.
The operation was led by Associate Professor Necip Altundaş, the center's director. Öztürk, who had been on dialysis three days a week for 17 years, expressed joy at being freed from the treatment and thanked the donor and medical team. Coordinator Muhammed İkbal Kocaman confirmed the patient's condition is good and he will be discharged, emphasizing the importance of organ donation.
Öztürk said, I have been on dialysis for 17 years. I had applied for organ transplantation. Eight times a cadaver came, I came for transplant but it was not suitable, but this time it was suitable, I had the transplant.
