Killed in Sudan Attack Blamed on Splm-n

At least 21 people, including women and children, were killed in an attack in Sudan's South Kordofan state, according to the Sudan Doctors Union. The assault, which targeted the Debi and Luweiri areas south and west of the town of Kauda, was carried out by the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), an ally of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The union said many other civilians were wounded and that a large number of residents were forced to flee the area.

It condemned the attack, alleging that civilians were targeted 'on an ethnic basis' and stating that the assault violated the ceasefire agreement reached at the end of August as well as international humanitarian law regarding the protection of civilians. The SPLM-N, led by Abdulaziz al-Hilu, has been active since 2011 and controls parts of South Kordofan and Blue Nile states. While the war between Sudan's army and the RSF, which began in April 2023, continues, South Kordofan state is also witnessing clashes between SPLM-N forces and local armed groups. The attack comes amid ongoing conflict in the region.
