Germany Reports 33 Disciplinary Proceedings Over Lost Police Weapons

In response to a parliamentary inquiry from the Green Party, the ministry reported a total of 33 disciplinary proceedings during the period. Of these, 30 involved the Federal Police and three involved the BKA. The ministry did not specify where or how the weapons disappeared, arguing that releasing such details could reveal information about the security agencies' operational readiness and logistics, potentially endangering their work.

The ministry stated that "the interest in secrecy to protect the security of the Federal Republic of Germany outweighs the parliament's constitutionally protected right to exercise its right to information. The Green Party has challenged this reasoning and filed a complaint. Parliamentary group manager Irene Mihalic wrote to Parliamentary State Secretary Christoph de Vries (CDU), arguing there is "a high public interest in knowing what happened to the weapons and ammunition at the Federal Police, BKA, and Customs Investigation Service, and the extent of losses and thefts. She demanded the response be made public.
