Police Confiscated the Driver's License on the Spot

A vehicle was clocked at 186 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on the Tverlandsbrua bridge in Bodø, Norway, police said. The driver, a person in their 30s, was stopped without incident when police lights were activated. The driver was more than 100 km/h over the speed limit, and there is no suspicion of drug or alcohol impairment.

Police confiscated the driver's license on the spot. 'We have confiscated the driver's license, and the driver will likely have to prepare for a longer period without permission to drive, said operations leader Kai Henrik Eriksen of the Nordland police district. According to police, it is rare to stop drivers at such speeds in an 80 km/h zone.

'It is not common. It is quite far outside the norm, Eriksen said. 'Now it will be up to the lawyers how the person is followed up, but in this type of case, it is not unusual for the driver to be sentenced to conditional imprisonment, Eriksen added. The driver was stripped of their license at the scene.
