The District Is One of 18 House Seats Rated As Toss-ups by the Cook Political Report

William Lawrence, a 36-year-old progressive environmental organizer and co-founder of the Sunrise Movement, won the Democratic primary in Michigan's seventh congressional district on Tuesday. He defeated Bridget Brink, a former US ambassador to Ukraine and Slovakia, and Matt Maasdam, a former Navy SEAL and military aide to Barack Obama. Lawrence, who campaigned on a datacenter moratorium, universal healthcare, taxing billionaires, and ending the war in Iran and arms sales to Israel, will face incumbent Republican Tom Barrett in November.

He won with 49% of the vote in Mason, where a datacenter is proposed. Tonight the people of Michigan's 7th district sent a clear message: They are tired of Silicon Valley billionaires and D.C. insiders determining the future of our towns and our country, Lawrence said.
