Intern Pitches Own Job, Lands Full-time Role at Tinder
Ryan Stewart, a 28-year-old brand marketing manager at Tinder based in Los Angeles, started at the company as a design intern in the UK in 2021 and landed a full-time role by pitching his own job. During his internship, he made an effort to learn about other departments and support teams across Europe, which helped him identify a gap in the organization. At the end of his internship, he scheduled a meeting with a general manager to propose a "creative marketing associate" role, explaining the business need and why he should fill it.
The pitch was accepted, and he was brought on full-time later that month. His role has since grown to leading global brand campaigns and partnerships. Stewart advised being curious and proactive, noting that the worst outcome is a no.
