Electronic Arts, the Maker of Hit Games Like EA FC, the Sims and Mass Effect, Has Been Sold for $55 Billion to a Group Led by Saudi

The deal, announced Aug. 5, 2026, will take the American company private, with investors including Affinity Partners, run by Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, buying out all public shares. It is considered the largest leveraged buyout in history, financed partly by debt EA will assume, including a $20 billion loan from JP Morgan on top of PIF's $36 billion investment.
Bloomberg's Jason Schreier predicts possible layoffs, more aggressive monetization and cost-cutting. The sale has raised concerns over inclusivity in games like The Sims, which supports LGBT+ relationships, in Saudi Arabia, where same-sex acts can be punished by death or flogging. Players Alliance HQ urged gamers to petition politicians in protest.
PIF, a £514 billion fund used for investments like Newcastle United, makes this the second-largest gaming acquisition ever, after Activision Blizzard's $69 billion sale. EA CEO Andrew Wilson said the firm aims to create transformative experiences for future generations.
