Bush and Bell Face Off in Missouri Primary Rematch

Cori Bush and Wesley Bell face off Tuesday in a rematch for Missouri's 1st District Democratic primary, two years after Bell ousted Bush with heavy AIPAC backing. Bush, who was among the first sitting lawmakers to call Israel's actions in Gaza a genocide, now argues her progressive record will win over voters. "One of us is of the people, by the people and for the people, Bush said.

"The other one is paid for by AIPAC. AIPAC-aligned super PAC United Democracy Project has spent at least $2.1 million on ads, while Bell's campaign has spent over $2 million, per AdImpact. Bush has spent less than $200,000. Bell, endorsed by Hakeem Jeffries and the Congressional Black Caucus PAC, dismissed attacks over AIPAC money, saying he supports campaign finance reform but won't single out Americans from participating in democracy.

He added he can both support and criticize allies like Israel. The race is one of several Tuesday testing the party's establishment, including a Michigan Senate primary between Abdul El-Sayed and Rep. Haley Stevens. A July AP-NORC poll found roughly half of Democratic adults believe Israel committed genocide in Gaza.
