Wesley Bell Defeats Cori Bush in Missouri's 1St District Primary
In Missouri's 1st District, Rep. Wesley Bell (D-Mo.) trounced former Rep. Cori Bush in Tuesday's Democratic primary, two years after Bush vowed to "tear down" AIPAC's kingdom.
Bell, who unseated Bush in 2024 after she called Israel's Gaza actions a genocide, won by a wider margin than his six-point victory two years ago. AIPAC-backed super PAC spending dropped to $2 million from $9.3 million, and Bush lacked progressive group support this cycle. Bell, backed by Hakeem Jeffries and the Congressional Black Caucus PAC, affirmed U.S.-Israel ties.
Bush had endorsements from Bernie Sanders and the Democratic Socialists of America. The result signals limits to anti-Israel sentiment among Democratic primary voters.
