Brian Devine's Viral Finger-clicking at Saltburn Cricket Club Drew Criticism From Piers Morgan and Mike Brearley

Rob Knee, FrogBox's chief executive, told The Spin from Melbourne that the company prefers viral moments to come from catches, centuries, and sixes. Saltburn CC is among 1,850 clubs, mainly in the UK and Australia, using FrogBox kits, which retail at £2,380 and sold out this year. FrogBox partners with the England and Wales Cricket Board, Cricket Australia, Cricket Scotland, and Netherlands Cricket, using live scoring data to power graphics and automate highlights.
The company has posted over 3 million clips online and is taking pre-orders for next season. Knee highlighted positive outcomes, such as clubs securing sponsorships and parents capturing children’s first runs or wickets, noting that streaming over 1,000 games a weekend yields up to 250,000 highlights weekly. However, livestreaming raises privacy concerns, as cameras capture audio, and clubs can make streams unlisted.
Knee emphasized that clubs must ensure everyone knows matches are streamed. The Devine saga echoes themes from Jon Ronson’s 2015 book So, You’ve Been Publicly Shamed, highlighting the cruelty of social media pile-ons and the escapism amateur cricket offers players.
