Unite Says Arriva Has Failed to Address Complaints, Noting Most Buses Use Air Cooling Rather Than Air Conditioning

More than 1,500 London bus drivers employed by Arriva North London will strike on 26 dates in August, September and October, starting next week, over hot-weather working conditions, the Unite union announced.

The strikes will affect depots in Barking, Edmonton, Enfield, Grays, Palmers Green, Stamford Hill, Tottenham and Wood Green, with drivers citing health issues such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke and dehydration. Unite says Arriva has failed to address complaints, noting most buses use air cooling rather than air conditioning. The August and September strikes coincide with Piccadilly line closures, causing significant delays.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: Time and time again drivers have complained to Arriva North London about working in dangerous conditions, but the company has failed to act, which is completely unacceptable. A Transport for London spokesperson said most bus routes will operate, but affected routes may be busier, urging passengers to plan ahead and check before travelling.
