The Verge Has Asked Google for Confirmation of the Email's Accuracy

Google will remove access to Google Assistant on Android phones and tablets, along with paired devices like smartwatches and headphones, starting September 4th. The company announced the change in an email sent to some users, as reported by 9to5Google and shared on Reddit. The Verge has asked Google for confirmation of the email's accuracy.

In the email, Google states, We will begin removing access to Google Assistant starting on 4 September, and expect that this process may take a few weeks to reach everyone. Once availability is removed, you will no longer be able to use or switch back to Google Assistant on your phone, tablet or paired devices. Users in regions where Gemini is available and whose devices meet minimum requirements will only have access to the AI-enabled assistant.

Paired devices including Wear OS smartwatches, headphones, earbuds, and cars running Android Auto will also lose access, though cars with Google built-in retain Assistant for now. Google Home and Google TV devices are unaffected. The shutdown was previously planned for 2025 but was delayed to this year.
