Taele Was Held Without Bail and Scheduled for Arraignment Tuesday Afternoon

A California man was arrested near Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes hours before President Donald Trump's visit, authorities said Tuesday. Jeanine John Taele, 38, of Downey, was taken into custody Sunday after deputies found hollow-point ammunition in his pocket and a loaded firearm in his vehicle. A search of his home uncovered additional firearms, body armor, high-capacity magazines, and notebooks with what investigators called "concerning statements.

Taele faces felony charges including possession of a large-capacity magazine, a short-barreled rifle or shotgun, and second-degree robbery from November 2025, plus a misdemeanor for carrying a concealed firearm. Deputies responded around 3:30 p.m. Sunday after federal agents spotted a "suspicious individual taking photos and videos while appearing to monitor security planning. Taele was held without bail and scheduled for arraignment Tuesday afternoon.

Officials said no credible threat to communities was identified, but the case highlighted vigilance and interagency cooperation. Trump was set to speak at a Republican National Committee fundraiser at the club Tuesday evening, focusing on economic policies and crime reduction, while criticizing California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
