Buckie, Moray, Woke to Find a Shirtless Man in Their Travelodge Bedroom in Dundee After He Was Mistakenly Given a Key Card to Their Door

Kim Hutchison, 60, and Harry Grieve, 57, were staying at the Strathmore Avenue branch when the incident happened after 02:00 on Saturday 11 July. Hutchison said she was "petrified" as the man, wearing only shorts, stood at the end of her bed for about a minute arguing over who was in the wrong room. The man kept insisting it was room 316, but the couple were in 313. Grieve went to reception but found no one, and police later arrived due to another disturbance; no arrests were made.

The couple cut their weekend short and returned home. Travelodge apologised, refunded the room, and gave a £100 voucher, which Grieve doubted they would use. The company said its updated room access security policies were not correctly followed and that staff at the Dundee hotel have been retrained.

The couple spoke out after reading about a previous incident where a man was jailed for sexually assaulting a woman after Travelodge staff gave him a key card. Travelodge's safety review remains ongoing.
