🇦🇺 Australia🇬🇧 United KingdomWeekend to Bring Unseasonable Heat, Thunderstorms, Flooding and Snow Across Eastern Australia
A powerful front will generate a smorgasbord of wild weather across eastern Australia this weekend, including potential record hot early September temperatures in Brisbane and Sydney, damaging winds and gusty thunderstorms in parts of New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria, flooding rains in northern Victoria and northern Tasmania, and a dusting of snow across the Alps.
After unprecedented winter heat across much of eastern Australia, the start to spring has also brought record warmth. Sydney's maximums through the first five days of September are on track to match the city's midsummer average of 26.4 degrees Celsius — that is warmer than any other start to spring since the Observatory Hill station opened in the 1850s. For many parts of northern and eastern NSW, the highest temperatures of the week will arrive today, as an approaching front draws a strong north-westerly airstream south from the tropics.
