🇹🇷 TürkiyeSalt Harvest Has Begun at Lake Tuz (Tuz Gölü) in Central Turkey As the Water Recedes, With the Season Expected to Last About Three Months
The lake, located in the closed basin where Ankara, Konya and Aksaray provinces meet, has been a key source of Turkish salt production since the early 1800s. An average of 1.5 million tons of raw salt is extracted from the lake annually, meeting roughly 40 to 60 percent of Turkey's total salt demand.
Salt-cutting machines then come into operation, and the harvested salt is loaded onto trucks and transported either to collection areas or directly to factories for processing. The harvest period, which supplies about 60 percent of Turkey's salt needs, has also produced postcard-worthy scenery at the lake.
