New Ingredients for the Meat Soup Are Being Used at Ljósanótt

Insects were found in lunch served by Skólamat ehf. at six schools in Reykjavík, Iceland, on Friday, including four preschools run by the city. The insects were discovered in rice from supplier Garra that was used in cooking.

Skólamat said in a statement that nothing indicates the issue stems from its production, cooking, or hygiene. "As soon as the scope of the matter became clear, response procedures were activated. The relevant raw material was taken out of use, discarded, and traceability confirmed.

[..."] The matter has also been raised with the supplier, the statement said. The company added that there was no health risk from the incident. The preschools affected are Hraunborg, Borg, Ævintıraborg on Eggertsgata, and Blásalir.

According to mbl.is, the insects were beetles found in a meat soup served at lunch. New ingredients for the meat soup are being used at Ljósanótt. The health inspectorate was informed and visited Skólamat's premises to review conditions and procedures.

"No comments were made on site after that inspection, the company's statement said." Skólamat said it deeply regrets the incident and takes it seriously. The company is offering meat soup at Ljósanótt this evening, as in previous years.
