DEM Party Congress Moved Up to Sunday in Ankara Amid Peace Process

Under Turkish political party law, parties must hold ordinary congresses every two years, or at most every three years in certain mandatory situations. The party last held its ordinary congress in October 2023. Party officials say the transformation process was affected by a slowdown in the peace process during the spring months and the delayed enactment of the framework law. A party official explained the decision to move the congress up was tied to delays in the process, noting the restructuring plan was built around the framework law's provisions being implemented earlier.
