Residents Rescue Unconscious Bear Trapped in Stream in Trabzon

The incident occurred in the Köknar neighborhood of the Çaykara district. The bear, believed to have come close to the settlement in search of food, became trapped among rocks. Locals who spotted the animal notified gendarmerie and Nature Conservation and National Parks teams.

While waiting for the teams to arrive, residents took action on their own, entering the water to carefully extract the unconscious bear and place it on a tarpaulin. Several people then pulled the bear from the stream bed to a safe area despite the difficult terrain. After navigating the steep slope, the bear was handed over to the Nature Conservation and National Parks teams.

The animal was taken by pickup truck to the relevant unit, where it was examined by veterinary teams and placed under care and treatment. Authorities said the bear's health condition is being monitored and that it will be released back into its natural habitat once its treatment is complete. The rescue drew attention as residents, who have previously experienced unease due to bears occasionally entering plateau and pasture homes, came together this time to save the trapped animal.

The brown bear, which fell into the stream and got stuck between rocks in Çaykara, was rescued thanks to the efforts of the neighborhood residents. Citizens who entered the water placed the unconscious bear on a tarpaulin and brought it up the steep slope. The bear, now under treatment, will be released back into the wild after it recovers.
