Danish Woman, 71, Gets 1 Year for Assaulting Husband Before His Death

A 71-year-old woman has been sentenced to one year in prison for aggravated assault and mistreatment of her husband, following a case heard at the Court in Hjørring, Denmark. The case began in December 2024, when the woman's 89-year-old husband was found dead in their shared home in Frederikshavn. The man had broken ribs, a skull fracture, and bleeding on the brain, which led police to initially charge the woman with murder.

However, as police could not establish that the man died as a result of the violence, the charge was changed to aggravated assault and mistreatment. The woman has also received a warning about deportation, according to the Ritzau news agency. She has requested time to consider whether to appeal the verdict.
