Sahmyook University Expands Essay-based Admissions for 2027

Sahmyook University (President Je Hae-jong) will accept applications for its 2027 academic year early admission (susimo) from the 7th to the 11th via the JinHak Apply portal. The university plans to select 1,029 students, a 24.73% increase (204 more) from last year's 825, bringing early admissions to nearly 80% of total enrollment. The most notable change this year is the expansion of the essay-based track (Nonseul).

Excluding theology and arts/physical education departments, 277 students will be selected across all departments, up 79.87% (123 more) from last year's 154. This is the largest quota of any track, making it the university's signature selection method. The pharmacy department, which attracts top-tier applicants, will introduce an essay-based track for the first time, selecting 5 students. The essay track does not consider high school records at all, selecting candidates solely on essay exam scores (100%).

The minimum CSAT requirement for general departments is a grade of 3 or better in one of Korean, English, math, or one elective subject, lowering the burden on applicants. The pharmacy department requires a combined grade of 5 or better across three areas (Korean, English, math (calculus or geometry), and one science elective). The essay exam uses a 'brief essay' format with simpler questions and shorter answers than traditional language or math essays.

General departments will have 13 questions in Korean and math over 80 minutes, down from 15 last year. The pharmacy department will have 8 math questions over the same 80 minutes. The Seoum talent track (comprehensive) will select 231 students.

Stage 1 selects four times the quota based on document review (100%), and stage 2 combines stage 1 scores (60%) with interviews (40%). Interviews are based on school records without prompts, lasting under 8 minutes, with all identifying information blinded.
