FAA Confirms Baggage Door Detached During Takeoff

The FAA confirmed the incident, noting a baggage door detached during takeoff. This marks the second Diamond plane door loss in two years from Las Vegas; a DA40 lost its door in March 2024. Both planes share the same owner and on-site manager, who said maintenance directives were followed. Aviation attorney Jeff Lustick called Diamond planes "perfect" for training and noted the FAA's role in tracking mechanical trends.
The incident follows a January 2024 Boeing 737 Max 9 door-plug blowout on an Alaska Airlines flight, where missing bolts were later found by investigators. Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun admitted a "mistake" and emphasized safety assurances.
