Turkey's Cop31 Preparations Advance Through Inclusive Dialogue and Concrete Goals

Turkey's COP31 preparations are advancing through a comprehensive consultation process involving all segments of society, with a roadmap built on dialogue, consensus, and action. Environment Minister Murat Kurum recalled signing the COP31 Host Country Agreement with the UN Climate Change Secretariat at the Bonn Climate Change Conference, and highlighted concrete goals such as halving waste growth and reducing building sector energy intensity by at least 25 percent. He emphasized the importance of universities' knowledge and research power in COP31 processes, warning that countries failing to keep up with global transformation will fall behind in economic competition, production, technology, and development.

Kurum stressed that Turkey's COP31 presidency offers a major opportunity to bridge developed and developing countries, and quoted Nobel laureate Aziz Sancar on the importance of scientific strength. He called for unity in the COP31 process, saying the country must act together as it did in the earthquake region. The event was titled "COP31 Yolunda Bilim Diplomasisi: Akademi Lansmanı" (Science Diplomacy on the Road to COP31: Academy Launch).
