Provincial Public Library, a Facility Spanning 8,390 Square Meters With a Capacity for 1,475 Users and Shelving for Roughly 62,000 Books
Ersoy announced that Turkey's total library floor space has grown from about 320,000 square meters to nearly 900,000 square meters over the past eight years, marking a record high in the republic's history. During the same period, public library memberships surged from 2.8 million to 7.2 million, and user numbers climbed from 28 million to 39.2 million. Seating capacity expanded from 97,000 to about 160,000, while the total book count rose from 19 million to 26.1 million.
Ersoy noted that over 1,300 libraries now operate nationwide, with more than 245 new or renovated libraries opened in the last three years alone. The new Şırnak library includes sections for infants aged 0-3, preschoolers aged 4-6, and children aged 7-14, along with four adult reading and research halls, a periodicals section, and technical services. It also features accessible rooms for visually and hearing-impaired citizens, workshops for various age groups, and multimedia and conference halls.
Ersoy highlighted renovations to district libraries in İdil, Uludere, Silopi, and Güçlükonak over the past five years, as well as a new building for the Cizre 100th Year District Public Library. He emphasized the "Producing Libraries" vision, transforming libraries into hubs for innovation, entrepreneurship, and project development. Nationwide, there are 26 standalone baby libraries, 75 children's libraries, 21 special and literature museums, 12 shopping mall libraries, 3 airport libraries, 2 train station libraries, and 2 hospital libraries, with 78 mobile libraries serving those without access to fixed facilities. Ersoy pledged continued development of digital transformation, mobile apps, artificial intelligence, and disability-friendly technologies in library services.
