Tamil Nadu opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was detained from his Chennai residence on Tuesday over alleged remarks about actor Trisha made during a Monday rally. Police took him from his Neelankarai home in a police bus, expected to be moved to Thanjavur where the case was registered. He had sought anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court, with a hearing scheduled before Justice G K Ilanthiraiyan.
The ruling TVK filed complaints with police and the National Commission for Women, including one at Thanjavur East Police Station by S Bairavi, the party's Central District Women's Wing Organiser. TVK supporters staged protests in Coimbatore, and heavy police deployment was seen outside Stalin's residence.
